Professional/Research Focus:

Dr. Meltzer is the founding director of the Women’s Center at Wake Forest University. She came to Wake Forest from Harvard University’s Program in History & Literature, where her teaching focused on masculinity, social movements, and suburbanization. Prior to joining academia, Dr. Meltzer was Policy Director and Interim Executive Director for a nonprofit dedicated to women’s economic justice issues such as paid family leave and affordable childcare. She sees the Center as a place of collaboration and networking and as a space to promote female leadership in student government and other campus organizations, professional development, and body wellness. She believes that the Center’s work affects all members of the Wake Forest community, as women’s rights affect men and families and society. According to Dr. Meltzer, the Women’s Center is a resource that can help us to recognize gender inequality and promote change on campus and beyond.
